About article:
In ancient Greece, sport was supposed to celebrate the body and the gods. The revealed body of ancient athletes was the epitome of transparency. Not only did it show the athlete's current physical state, but it guaranteed the exposure of any illegal devices or unpermitted participants in physical culture - women. The involvement of the female body in physical culture and sport comes only in modernity. This process brings not only new dimensions but also new problems of perception and classification of female body. In the last two centuries, the question of the exposure of the female body in a changing historical and social context has shifted from the plane of transparency, to the plane of commercial objectification, or outright sexualization. In sport or physical culture, the human body fulfils multiple roles: it is an object, performer, and in a literal sense a kind of "mover" of the action. In the following pages, I will discuss a publicized case that has exposed this dichotomy of the female body in sport and has also once again challenged the prevailing objectification of the female body at the expense of its functionality during sports.
