Today, the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, prof. Pavol Šajgalík and the Vice President for International Relations of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Dr. Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes, signed a Cooperation Agreement at the SAS, which will enable the announcement of a joint call and the exchange of research scientists between the two organizations. The signing of the Agreement was attended by the Spanish Ambassador J. E. Lorea Arribalzaga Ceballos, Chargé d'affaires of the Spanish Embassy Laura Carratalá, State Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic Michal Fedák, Vice-President for International Relations of the Slovak Academy of Sciences Dr. Zuzana Panczová, Vice-President of the SAS for Scientific section 1 Dr. Martin Venhart and Vice-President of the SAS for Scientific section 2, prof. Karol Marhold.

At the beginning of the meeting, the SAS President thanked the Spanish ambassador for her support in establishing communication with Spanish partners. Dr.  Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes presented the CSIC organization, which has a high success rate in Horizon 2020 projects and a very well-developed international cooperation, which it implements thanks to 304 agreements concluded with various scientific organizations around the world. The newly signed Agreement between SAS and CSIC will enable the announcement of a bilateral call and the support of three bilateral projects within the Mobility program. Its goal is to streamline the international mobility of SAS research scientists and lead to more intensive participation in international project schemes, especially in EU framework programs. The program enables the establishment of cooperation with partners from important institutes in Europe and the world to create prerequisites for the preparation of joint international projects. The potential to create a joint international project is one of the conditions for awarding a grant under the Mobility program. An important aspect and one of the main evaluation criteria is the involvement of young scientists (post-doctoral) and doctoral students in international cooperation.

Vice-President for International Relations of the SAS Dr.  Zuzana Panczová continued by presenting the structure and activities of the SAS. Vice-President of the SAS for Scientific section 1, Dr. Venhart, presented a currently ongoing successful project in the field of nuclear physics implemented in cooperation with CSIC.

The call for submission of Spanish-Slovak mobility projects will be published by the Department of International Cooperation on its website.
