Results of the 1998 elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic are analysed. At the level of districts regions with above average and below average support given to HZDS (Fig. 1), SDK (Fig. 2), SDĽ (Fig. 3), SMK (Fig. 4), SNS (Fig. 5), and SOP (Fig. 6) are described in detail. Attention is paid also to the rate and structure of political preferences of population of the towns of Slovakia with more than 10 thousand inhabitants. Combining the dominating political subjects (which together obtained more than 50% of votes) eleven types of towns (Tab. 3) are described in detail. The types containing at least five towns of Slovakia (Tabs. 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) are separately presented. Finally the structure of the dominating political subject in study towns is compared with the one of the dominating subjects within the districts they are part of.
