O článku:
Urbanization in the Slovak Republic launched a new housing construction boom which provided enough accommodation for an ever increasing number of people in cities. The strongest wave of housing construction occurred after the Second World War. Though the problem of accommodation had been solved, other problems regarding a high density of built-up areas, construction quality of buildings including a low energy efficiency of buildings (typically blocks of buildings with panel technology) appeared. The land cover classes of the CORINE Land Cover database regarding urban areas do not provide information on types of residential buildings. However, this information is valuable in solar energy and also other applications. This paper presents a methodology for mapping these zones in all cities of the Slovak Republic. The result of mapping is a digital database that can be effectively used in various analyses including estimation of renewable energy potential, quantitative urbanism, renovation planning and further development of these areas.
