Biela hora v Malých Karpatoch

The lower Morava basin was connected with the region of the Vag valley by a road leading through the Small Karpatians. The existence, of this route can be followed up from ancient times up to the beginning of the 19th century. In the Middle ages this route was the main means of communication between Prague and Budín (Budapest) that is why documents from this period call it the Bohemian route – Via Bohemica. Its radius reached, however, as far west as the Rhine and as far as the Balcans in the east. In the Small Karpatian pass, between the villages of Trstín and Prievaly, this road led at the foot of the hill that by its characteristic features remained well imprinted in the minds of the pilgrims. It attracted attention by its white colour, since its slopes were never overgrown with trees; its position was also well noted since it formed something like a mile post on the long, tiresome and often dangerous journey between east and west. Travellers gave it the name of White Mountain. In this short monography the author acqaints the reader with the geographical character of the White Mountain as well as with older geographers and historians that made it the object of their studies and also with the events that were connected with it in the past.
