In evaluating the recognizing function of geography the author goes out from the thesis that the crucial point of geographical study lies in the complex evaluation of interactions between natural and social structures and processes, As key problem he considers the problem of specifying the geographical object of recognitions. The quantitative heterogeneity of object of geography is considered by him exceptionally as the reason that led to the conception of traditional geography as a descriptive science and to a late forming of modem geography as a science elucidating con- sequences of the coexistence of natural and social systems. Out of the most significant applications of geographical knowledge he quotes the sphere of coordination of interactions between society and its outer environment.
