Doc. Mgr. Marek Káčer, PhD.

Marek Káčer is an independent researcher at the Institute of State and Law, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. His academic work mainly discusses philosophical issues of normativity, argumentation, democracy and the rule of law. In 2011, he defended his dissertation entitled "Judicial decision as a source of law" at the Faculty of Law of the University of Trnava. In 2017 he habilitated at the same workplace in the field of Theory and History of State and Law. Publishing house Leges (Prague) has published his monographs on case law on the European continent (Why Stay with the Decided, 2013), contextual presuppositions of legal interpretation (On the Edge of Extreme Emergency, 2015), a critique of the theory of the material core of the constitution (The Material Core in Slovak Constitutional Law, 2019, co-authored), and defence of repression of hate speech (Restricting Free Speech in a Radicalizing Society, 2021, co-authored).
