Mgr. Vratislav Zervan, PhD.
Vratislav Zervan (1979) is a senior research fellow at the Institute of Art History, Art Research Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He received an MA in Archaeology and History (Faculty of Arts, Comenius University, Bratislava), an MA in Classical Philology (Faculty of Arts, Comenius University, Bratislava), and a PhD in General History (Faculty of Arts, Comenius University, Bratislava). During his study, he won in 2006 the Socrates/Erasmus scholarship (Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, University of Vienna) and in 2008 the fellowship of the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (Institute for Byzantine Research, Austrian Academy of Science. He worked as a research assistant on the Project “Lexikon zur byzantinischen Gräzität” and on the FWF Project 22269: „Patriarch Antonios IV. von Konstantinopel, 2. Amtsperiode“–collaboration on the edition of the vol. 6 – Patriarchatsregister von Konstantinopel at the IMAFO (Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna) from 2009 to 2014. He was carrying out research as a postdoc on several FWF Projects (FWF Project 23912: „Imitation/Innovation im Wortschatz der spätbyzantinischen historiographischen Literatur; FWF Project P24289–G18 „Die Kirchengeschichte des Nikephoros Xanthopulos: Chrysostomos bis Phokas“; FWF Project P 30384-G28: „Byzantino-Serbian Border Zones in Transition [1282-1355]“) at the IMAFO (Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna) from 2014 to 2022. In 2017, he was part of the team at the Slovak Academy of Sciences that was conducting research under the SRDA research grant (APVV-15-0526: “The three kings-theme in the Art of Slovakia”). His particular areas of interest are iconography, hagiography, Byzantine art and culture, Byzantine and Greek lexicography, and digital humanities.His most recent books and important publications are: „Mihailo St. Popović, Vratislav Zervan, Ralf C.
