Thirty years of independence of the Slovak and Czech republic (1993 – 2023)

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic, an event called Thirty Years of Independence for the Czech and Slovak Republics (1993-2023) will take place on October 23 and 24, 2023 in the Hall of Mirrors of the Primate's Palace in Bratislava. The series of moderated discussions with several prominent personalities from abroad and Slovakia is open to a wide professional and lay public and fans of the modern history of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Entry is free, registration for the event is required.

The program is rich. The event will commence with speeches of: the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prof. Eva Zažímalová, the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Prof. Pavol Šajgalík and the French ambassador to Slovakia, J. E. Pascal Le Deunff.

Diplomat Michaela Jurovská, historian Dušan Kováč (Institute of History SAS), political scientist Jana Vargovčíková (INALCO), literary scholar Xavier Galmiche (Sorbonne Université), philosopher František Novosád (Institute of Philosophy SAS) and last but not least the Czech philosopher Václav Bělohradský, will discuss the three decades of independence of both republics with the participants of the event.  (The complete program of the event can be found in the appendix at the end of the text.)

The event will be hosted by a scientific duo from the Institute of History SAS – Agáta Šústová Drelová and Jaroslav Valent. Simultaneous interpretation from the French language will be provided.
