About article:
The paper deals with an analysis of those classes of comparative Slavonic onomastics, which were lectured at the University of Vienna by outstanding Balkan studies specialist Konstantin Jireček. Manuscript of Jireček’s lectures was found out in his inheritance, which is placed in archives of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia. Although the manuscript of lectures on Slavonic personal names in Middle Ages as well as on Slavonic place names was never prepared for publishing (this applies especially to toponymical part), still K. Jireček contributed to Slavonic onomastics by his fresh view as a historian as well as a specialist in Balkan studies. An extensive material from Balkan countries is based on Jireček’s own archival investigations. His viewpoint as a historian proved to be very really perspective, especially in comparative interpretations, in which he takes into consideration the areal and time dimensions of the Slavpnoc proper names (e.g. interpretations of gradual formation of hereditary surnames).
