The first part of the book bears a pattern of synthesis. It is a profound description of the nature of the national revival period. The discourse is based upon linguistic, historical and literary works as well as source material. The following five chapters deal with these topics: a) the problem of the initial period of the Slovak literary language is being solved (i.e. the question of its chronology is being discussed); b) the problem of the vernacular basis of both Bernolák`s and Štúr`s language codification is being explicated; c) the problem of development of both Bernolák`s and Štúr`s lexics becomes the object of the next three chapters. Whereas Štúr and his companions did not compose any such dictionary as is represented by Bernolák`s Slovár, when dealing with Štúr`s lexics, the author relies on the analysis of published texts.
