About article:
A very timely problem of the Czech and Slovak Archeology and History is the clearing up of the arrival of the Slavs into the Danube Basin. In this connection there is studied especially their organisation in the state formation known as the Veľkomoravská ríša (Great Moravian Empire). The political and ecclesiastical centre of this empire is being searched, which the historical sources name as Velehrad (Great Castle, Fortress). The most recent archeological findings have shown that this centre could have lam near the lower course of the river Morava. In his study the author deals with the geographical and the historical relations of this south Moravian region with the territory of Slovakia near the lower river Váh and near Nitra, from which relations there results the participation of Slovakia in the historical Great Moravian epoch.
