About article:
The territory of Slovakia was not yet known in antiquity even to the highest cultural circles, with the exception of one, as it was found beyond their horizon. The oldest records come from Herodotus in the 5th century B. C. The most thorough knowledge of Slovakia was attained by Tacitus and Ptolemy in the 2nd century. Then up to the 15th century no new information was arrived at abroad. From the 15th century on a more thorough geographical knowledge of the territory of Slovakia was gathered, and this up to the 18th century, more from the socio- logical, and from the 18th century also from the physical and economic, standpoints.
