About article:
In the article the author analyses the profiles both along and across the terraces of the river Váh in the central part of the Liptov Basin between the Low and Liptov Tatras in Slovakia. On the ground of soil probes and geological borings he found, in the studied territory, entirely seven terraces. The alluvial river valley of the Váh is formed by 3 degrees of low terraces. The terraces T-II and T-III are classed into the Middle Pleistocene, while T-IV and T-V into the Old Pleistocene. The erosive effect of the river Váh in the Pleistocene is given at 100 m. The terraces T-VI and T-VII above this limit are already classed into the Pliocene. The existence of elevated and weathered terraces proves that in the Liptov Basin there was not a Neogene Sea, but there existed already an erosive cycle in the Pliocene.
