In the presented contribution, there is the possibility of forecast of the spring runoff volume discussed. The forecast possibility refers to the rivers of the West Carpathian Mountains on the Slovak territory in this ease; it is related to the natural conditions of mentioned territory and to the immediate state of available data. The article gives precision to the idea of main factors of the spring runoff on the given territory, further it presents the analysis of possibilities of the direct or indirect expression of those factors accenting the characteristics of the snow accumulation. Besides, it determines such a forecast period which could best characterise the spring runoff season and which could be acceptable from the point of view of the practical usage. The period in which the runoff is conditioned or influenced by the snow melt water from the winter snow accumulation together with concidental spring precipitation is considered as the spring runoff period in this article.
