The study examines, with special reference to Slovakia, the changes in Hungary’s territorial division introduced within the Josephinian reform of public administration in the 80’s of 18th century. Extraordinary attention is devoted to the circum- stance, as how the creators of new territorial organization took into account geographical conditions.
