About article:
The contribution elucidates the fundamental transformations in dyna- mics and structure of the economy in 1945 – 1975 as well as the transformations in its regional structure. The processes of growth and transformation have influenced all the components of socio-economic sphere of Slovakia (population, settlement, industry, agriculture, transport, tertiary sector). During 30 years, Slovakia has grown from an undeveloped, emigrative, slight-urbanlzed agrarian country to a developed industrial-agricultural republic with a high living standard. With the fundamental changes in economy the transformation in regional structure of the SSR proceeded as well, within which higher degrees of regional system have been formed. The transformation in economico-geographical structure of Slovakia was conditioned by social-political changes and by the assistance of the developed Czech Socialist Republic and the USSR. The depth and speed of economic development make Slovakia as an instructive example of newly activized territory on an international scale.
