A landscape (a spatially differentiated and spatially organized formation) is considered as a real spatial system SG and its representation into the map as an abstract system (Sk)G. The components (objects) of landscape as elements of the real spatial system SG as well as the figures of these components (objects) on the map are considered as elements of the abstract systém (Sk)G. The relations between the objects of landscape are defined as dependences rij between elements gi, gj of the system SG and the figures of these dependences into the map. The representation operator defining the operation of representation of elements gi of the real spatial system SG and of dependences rij between them by cartographical signs. The cartographical sign is defined as a cartographical word. The length of a word. The map as a model.
