About article:
The law of cartogram has been formulated as a logico-mathematical relation between the size of statistical index and the size of area of elementary relational cartogram unit. Owing to this reason a cartogram with topographico-administrative units is assigned only to express areal characteristics (for instance, population density per 1 sq km). In socio-economic geography, however, it is desired to express by cartogram also such characteristics, which are named non-areal (for instance, the value of production per 1 inhabitant, the share of workers from economically active population and so on). In such cases it is necessary to use a diagrammatic design and lately also an anamorphic design is being proposed, which is a suitable means for cartographic modelling the chosen non-areal characteristic.
