The article is aimed at basic information on the first evaluation of the results of the census of population, and housing census in 1980, worked up in a relatively rich nomenclature of data about population and housing situation, among other things also in classification for all the individual human settlements in Czechoslovakia. Inter alia already this general information bears out that to the specific features of settlement in the territory of the Czechoslovak Federation (especially the Czech Socialist Republic) belongs still an extraordinarily dense network of settlements, arosen in the historical development, the settlements being very small, mostly, however, integrated into larger settlement subsystems and Systems. The richness of factographic basic data about the settlements, made by the 1980 census, will be utilized in further more profound analyses, which next to scientific aims will serve mainly for the works continuing in updating and precisioning the long-terra conceptions of planned directing the urbanization and development of settlement in Czechoslovakia.
