About article:
Očová, the birth-place of the well-known Slovak geographer Matej Bel lies in the Zvolen Basin in Central Slovakia. It has a characteristic piedmont position on the alluvial plain terrace of the Hučava. The cadastre is of a horseshoe shape, which is determined by the fact that Dúbravy and Očovské Iviny have been separated from its centre. According to the func-tional structure, Očová is a mixed industrial-service-agricultural community. It amounts 2,963 inhabitants (1980). It belongs to communities with population decrease after 1918, which connects with its function conditioned by its remote position in view of the main communication axis of the basin.
