About article:
In the study the author analyzes the functions of towns in the SSR, interpreting them from the viewpoint of both the development and present state of regional structure of the Slovak Socialist Republic. It is shown that a close linkage exists between the functions of towns, particularly polyfunctional towns, and the regional structure in Slovakia, with its specialities. The author identifies centres of 5 hierarchic degrees of the regional structure in the SSR.
