About article:
Following up a brief analysis of the population development of Czechoslovakia in the period 1981 – 1985 the article concentrates on the territorial differences of the population development as recorded in 114 districts of ČSSR. Population growth and decrease are analysed in terms of both natural reproduction and migration. The analysis indicates less favourable results in the border districts of ČSR and the Southern districts of SSR as against more favourable results in the non-border districts in both ČSR and SSR. Large cities grow mainly at the cost of the neighbouring districts; their growth is, however, gradual and does not generate disproportions which can be witnessed in other industrially developed countries. Special attention was devoted to the quantitative assessment of the two factors (natural reproduction, migration) in each district.
