Paper is dealing with the problem of text, which author interprets in the frame of semiotics as well as theory of culture. In this way of discourse the phenomenon of folklore are texts sui generis fulfilling pragmatic as well as symbolic functions. Contemporary folkloristics have to solve precise research procedures enabling transition from surface analyses of text to the reconstruction of its deep meanings.
