About article:
Species composition of the phytoplankton of the rivers Morava and Danube in Bratislava (W Slovakia) in 2003 is evaluated. In the Morava River altogether 426 species and infraspecific taxa of cyanophytes and algae have been identified, while in the Danube this number was 406. In comparison with previous data, in the Morava 140 new infrageneric taxa, and the Danube 78 new taxa have been found. For the relatively eutrophic river Morava, more species of cyanobacteria (namely forming water blooms) and algal flagellates are characteristic. On the other hand, in the plankton of the Danube several oligotrophic species occurred. 10 species are first records for the territory of the Slovak Republic, i. e. two cyano-phytes/cyanobacteria: Microcystis ichthyoblabe Kützing, Planktothrix rubescens (DC. ex Gomont) Anagnostidis et Komárek, one diatom Surirella minuta var. peduliformis Freng. and seven green algae: Chlamydomonas lunata Pascher et Jahoda, Ankistrodesmus bernardii Komárek, Gloeomonas lateperforata (Skuja) Ettl, Franceia droescheri (Lemmermann) G. M. Smith, F. polychaeta (Širšov) Korshikov, Pediastrum privum (Printz) E. H. Hegewald and Geminella verrucosa Krienitz
