About article:
The urban environment is affected by a change in a surface temperature, which is higher than its immediate surroundings. Construction, landscape transformation as well as human activities lead to the creation of a specific phenomenon called the urban heat island. Engineering networks, underground spaces and buildings construction in cities affect not only the surface temperature, but directly or indirectly the temperature of the groundwater. The aim of the paper was to identify individual factors influencing spatial variations of groundwater temperatures based on the comparison of land cover. Buildings and other built-up areas including roads, parking lots and footpath strongly affect groundwater temperatures in Bratislava. On the contrary, forest vegetation, arable land, area without vegetation and shrubs exhibit negative correlation and lead to negative effect of construction reducing. Observing the groundwater temperature in Bratislava pointed to maximum temperatures of groundwater in the city centre during October, while the minimum in April and May. The temperature in the centre of Bratislava is higher by 5 to 8°C compared to the surrounding landscape.
