Annotation
Unlike binders based on Portland cement, geopolymers (GP) represent a group of new inorganic binders formed by alkali activation of alumino-silicon materials in an alkaline solution at room or elevated temperatures to form an "alumino-silicate hydrate structure". These composites have proven excellent mechanical properties and resistance to high temperatures and acids. Natural raw materials with a layered structure, such as illite, halloysite, and especially metakaolin, are used as a source of aluminosilicates for the preparation of geopolymers. Similarly, materials rich in SiO2 and Al2O3 can be successfully used to prepare geopolymer binders. The work aims to use ash from pyrolyzed separated coal mineral fractions for the development of geopolymers under normal and hydrothermal conditions. The main objective is to determine the chemical molar ratios of SiO2/Al2O3 and Na2O/SiO2 and the physical liquid/solid (L/S) ratio involving other inorganic mineral materials such as metakaolin, blast furnace slag, and silica fume and to investigate the geopolymerisation process of the ash from pyrolyzed coal.
