Annotation
Plant hemicelluloses are the most abundant source of carbon every year. Their decomposition in nature is mediated by enzymes. Due to the heterogeneous nature of these polysaccharides, a very wide variety of enzymes are required for their complete degradation into basic building blocks, many of which remain undiscovered. The search for new hemicellulolytic enzymes as well as the study of the catalytic properties of already known enzymes with the aim of their biotechnological application will be the subject of a doctoral study.
Aims: 1. Looking for novel, so far unknown enzymes involved in plant cell wall decomposition; 2. Detailed characterization of the catalytic properties of plant cell wall degrading enzymes that are known but not satisfactorily disclosed; 3. To establish a relationship between catalytic properties of the enzymes and their role in lignocellulose complexes degradation
