Annotation
Bee products are a frequent subject of preclinical and clinical studies. However, identification of the substances responsible for their therapeutic properties is lacking. The aim of this work will be to characterize the effect of selected peptides and polyphenolic extracts from bee products on the articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but also on medically relevant extra-articular manifestations with the intention of optimizing conventional RA treatment. The pharmacological influence on the above RA symptoms will be evaluated using an adjuvant arthritis model in rats. In addition to biometric markers, markers of inflammation and oxidative stress will be determined in plasma and relevant tissues. Analysis of cardioprotective mechanisms and study of mitochondrial energetics will be performed. Finally, the efficacy of the most effective natural agent will be verified also in combination with methotrexate and upadacitinib.
