The Centre deals with integrated research of causes, mechanisms of development, and possibilities to prevent, diagnose and treat socially significant lifestyle diseases, with emphasis on diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous system, metabolic disorders, mental disorders and mental health generally as well as diseases that originate in the prenatal and early postnatal period of development. Research is carried on in silico, in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo with the aim to transfer the acquired knowledge into clinical practice. An integral part of the scientific efforts of the Center is assessment of effects of natural compounds and their derivatives and of original synthetic substances with pharmacotherapeutic potential using animal models of human diseases, as well as the study of adverse side and toxic effects of tested substances and radiation.
