By pursuing its research objectives, Slavistický ústav Jána Stanislava of the Slovak Academy of Sciences meets an urgent demand in the field of basic research. Activities of the institute focus on the relations of the Slovak language and culture towards other Slavonic cultures and languages as well as on research into Slovak-Latin, Slovak–Church-Slavonic, Slovak-Hungarian, and Slovak-German connections of the earliest times. Other Slavonic languages and cultures are studied, too. Slavistický ústav Jána Stanislava is an interdisciplinary research centre engaged not only in linguistic projects but it takes part also in research concerning various issues of history, ethnography, art, and culturology. At the same time, Slavistický ústav Jána Stanislava is in charge of coordinating Slavistic research projects in Slovakia due to its cooperation with the Slovak Committee of Slavists. In this respect, the Institute’s activities include tasks connected with organising regularly the International Congresses of Slavists and other interdisciplinary conferences both at the national and international levels. Together with other Slavistic research institutes in Slovakia and abroad, Slavistický ústav Jána Stanislava is responsible for carrying out Slavistic research in Slovakia as well as in international context.
