CRIS - Cooperate, reach out, integrate services

Cooperate, reach out, integrate services

Duration: 1. 1. 2022 - 30. 6. 2024
Program: EaSI (Employment and Social Innovations)
Project leader: Mgr. Polačková Zuzana M.A., PhD.
Annotation:The project develops and validates tools and practices aimed at strengthening the integration of services provided to people from vulnerable groups in order to promote their inclusion in the labour market and society. The target groups of the project are long-term unemployed or inactive people of working age facing multiple disadvantages. These are people who often need the intervention of several services, the possible coordination of services increases their effectiveness. In the current institutional set-up, the availability of support services is limited, education and awareness about the existence of different services and tools is often insufficient and the services provided are often fragmented. Cross-sectoral cooperation and the systematic involvement of NGOs in the service delivery system can fill the gaps. The CRIS project will address the challenges of integrated service delivery: (1) strengthening referral mechanisms and introducing new outreach activities; (2) strengthening or developing the capacity of public employment services in "case management"; (3) filling service gaps through capacity building in public agencies and/or developing an effective model for engaging NGOs in service delivery and subcontracting these organizations.

ENIS - ENIS - EUROPEAN NETWORK ON INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MOBILITY: CONNECTING RESEARCH AND PRACTICE

ENIS - EURÓPSKA SIEŤ O MEDZINÁRODNEJ MOBILITE ŠTUDENTOV: PREPOJENIE VÝSKUMU A PRAXE

Duration: 1. 10. 2021 - 1. 10. 2025
Program: COST
Project leader: Ing. Chrančoková Martina PhD.
Annotation:Over the past decades, international student mobility (ISM) in higher education has expanded rapidly. This growth has sparked a considerable interest in ISM within different disciplines, research communities, and circles of practitioners and policy makers. However, there is surprisingly little connection and Exchange among researchers across these spheres. In addition, ISM scholarship remains strongly restricted to scientific circles, despite the relevance that scientific knowledge on ISM has for policy and daily practice. This Action responds to the pressing need for systematic interdisciplinary and international exchange of knowledge on theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, findings, and best practice examples, and for translating scientific findings into recommendations for ISM practice. It is organised around five working groups, four of them addressing themes in need of scientific development, and a fifth one bringing together recommendations for practice: (1) Global ISM flows and trends at the macro-level; (2) Social inequalities in access to and during ISM; (3) The social and cultural integration of international students in their host countries; (4) The impact of ISM on graduates’ careers; (5) Connecting research and practice. The Action brings together established researchers, early-career investigators (ECIs) and PhD students from different scientific disciplines, countries, and research communities as well as stakeholders from international offices, international student and study abroad organizations, and different policy levels. The Action will offer comparative and practical insights into ISM dynamics by bringing fragmented knowledge together, with the main aim of generating new interdisciplinary and innovative empirical perspectives on the phenomenon and translating these into tangible recommendations for stakeholders. Action keywords international student mobility - study abroad - international student migration - internationalisation - exchanges

I SKILL - I SKILL - Industrial relations and social dialogue to kick-in inclusive adult learning

I SKILL - Pracovnoprávne vzťahy a sociálny dialóg s cieľom naštartovať inkluzívne vzdelávanie dospelých

Duration: 1. 9. 2021 - 31. 8. 2023

Annotation:The I SKILL project will study how can industrial relations and social dialogue drive progress in adult learning in the EU, by supporting universal right to adult learning and ensuring that all workers can exercise this right through access to high quality learning opportunities during the green and digital transition. The project aims are in line with the EU principles and policy objectives for a climate-neutral and digital European economy that leaves nobody behind, especially for a resilient post-COVID recovery.

INFO-POW - INFO-POW: Assessment of the channels of information and their use in the posting of workers

INFO-POW: Hodnotenie informačných kanálov a ich využitia pri vysielaní pracovníkov

Duration: 1. 9. 2022 - 29. 2. 2024
Program: Multilaterálne - iné
Project leader: Mgr., MA Mýtna Kureková Lucia PhD.
Annotation:INFO-POW brings together research institutions from five EU Member States as well as social partners at both national and EU levels to promote the evidence basis through the collection and evaluation of original data about access to information about posting, and the analysis specific to the posting process and posted workers' working conditions. The overarching aim of this research project is to identify and assess new as well as existing challenges and needs of undertakings (in the construction sector more specifically) in accessing and using relevant information regarding the process of posting of workers and the undertakings' obligations as a result thereof. Previous studies have found that despite the existence of information provided through different channels, whether by state or non-state actors, information is insufficient and/or difficult to access by the stakeholders it should be provided for. It also remains unclear to what degree existing channels of information are used by posting undertakings and in what way(s). This study fills a gap in the understanding of how transnational posting undertakings and user undertakings find and use information in their interaction with national institutions and how that affects their overall performance in terms of the correct application of the posting rules and the protection of labour and social standards. The study focuses on the specific case of the construction sector as the main sector where posting occurs, and where both larger companies and SMEs as well as self-employed are active.

Post-WWII MigFlo - Post-WWII Migration Flows in the V4 States in the Context of Propaganda Studies

Migračné pohyby po druhej svetovej vojne v krajinách V4 v kontexte propagandistických štúdií

Duration: 1. 9. 2021 - 28. 2. 2023
Program: International Visegrad Found (IVF)
Project leader: Mgr. Heldáková Lucia PhD.
Annotation:The project will enrich historians in the V4 countries with skills in the form of mastering the hitherto little-used methodological approach in the context of propaganda studies and at the same time provides them with space for cross-border cooperation and connection of regional research to the Central European area. The originality of the project lies in the change of perspective on the issue of migration on two levels: 1. through propaganda studies (thus filling in the gaps in research), 2. linking partial regional research into one whole. The innovative element of the project consists in its interdisciplinary perspective combining media studies, history, sociology, law and policy studies; connecting research, providing space for professional discourse with a great impact on the lay public and students, and in preparing a publication that is absent in Central European historiography. At the same time, the benefits of the project include the acquisition of a new methodological approach, which will bring a different perspective on the issue and will lead to the creation of propaganda mechanisms at specific historical events. The mechanism created in this way may lead to further research in the field of psychology, sociology, political science, etc. An innovative element of the project is the fusion of professional and publicly available discourse. An expert-based publication based on the latest research results will be the basis for an interactive exhibition, in which the general public will hear about the latest research trends, propaganda issues or the project.

ENTRANCES - ENergy TRANsitions from Coal and carbon: Effects on Societies

Transformácia energetiky smerom od uhlia a uhlíka: Vplyvy na spoločnosť

Duration: 1. 5. 2020 - 30. 4. 2023
Program: Horizont 2020
Project leader: Mgr. Filčák Richard MSc. PhD.
Annotation:The project focuses on research theme H2020 "Aspects of the social sciences and humanities in the transition to clean energy" and focuses on "the challenges facing carbon-intensive regions." multi-context framework: 1) decarbonisation policies; 2) ongoing processes of de-territorialisation; and 3) the territorial dimension of the transition to clean energy. The following contextual elements defined in the project will then provide data and information for the interpretation of the main research questions: a) The risks of coal closure and transformation of regions with a high share of carbon consumption can have different impacts. Along with these processes, conflicts also emerge, shifting from the local to the national and European levels and vice versa. The main focus of the project is the analysis of these conflicts and the negotiation processes that concern them, as well as the context of public policies and political culture shaping the course and intensity of conflicts; (b) The challenges facing coal and carbon-intensive regions are being examined on the basis of an ongoing process at territorial level. Another line of project implementation is to identify de-territorialization factors operating in different coal and carbon-intensive regions and to analyze and explain their dynamics and interactions; c) The transition to clean energy cannot be understood only as a technological change or an industrial shift and must therefore be analyzed as a socio-economic-psychological process affecting the lives of local communities. In this regard, the project aims to study process management strategies from a wide range of perspectives: a multidimensional perspective combining different disciplinary frameworks; comparative perspective, elaboration of a comprehensive set of case studies; a multilevel perspective involving various key actors at territorial, regional, national, European and global levels. Each of these strategies will be developed in a specific research segment: Theoretical Area, Analytical Part and Proactive Area.

Health and Psychosocial Long-term Effects and Coping Resources in Severe or Critical COVID-19 Survivors: A Qualitative Study

Zdravotné a psychosociálne dlhodobé účinky a zvládacie zdroje u ťažkých alebo kritických prípadov ochorenia COVID-19: kvalitatívna štúdia

Duration: 1. 1. 2022 - 31. 12. 2024
Program: ANSO
Project leader: Prof. Mgr. Halama Peter PhD.
Annotation:Post-COVID-19 syndrome is a condition characterized by long-term symptoms and complications that continue or develop after acute COVID-19. It has been found the majority (up to 80%) of patients admitted to hospital with severe COVID-19 disease experience long-term physical and psychological symptoms. The study aims to qualitatively explore the experiences of severe or critical COVID-19 adult survivors throughout the post-acute period (within 1 year post hospital discharge) in four Eastern and Central European countries: Bulgaria, Slovakia, Croatia, and Romania. It will examine both negative (physical and mental health symptoms, cognitive symptoms, post-traumatic stress, difficulties in social functioning, diminished functional ability, etc.) and positive (post-traumatic growth) long-term post-COVID effects and will assess the role of survivors’ personal (e.g., self-efficacy, resilience, hope, optimism), social (e.g., social support) and other (e.g., financial) coping resources in the recovery period. A biopsychosocial public health perspective is adopted. Participants include 128 adult severe or critical COVID-19 survivors (32 participants per country) of all ages, with varying length of the post-acute period (up to 1 month, 1-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6+ months post discharge). The study will collect data through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyze them through thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). Survivors’ experiences will be studied as embedded in the local sociocultural context and the local epidemic-related situations in the participating countries. To our knowledge this will be the first study to qualitatively examine and cross-nationally compare the experiences of severe or critical COVID-19 survivors throughout the post-acute period. It will study lived experience of severe or critical COVID-19 survivors from a region of Europe that is insufficiently explored. Knowing patients’ experiences enables better understanding of their needs for support and will allow for the development of socioculturally appropriate tailored approaches to the treatment of post-COVID-19 syndrome and psychosocial support in the recovery process.

BAPAN - Behavioural aspects of COVID-19: Mapping the COVID-related behaviours and psychological, social, and economic consequences of the pandemic

Behaviorálne aspekty COVID-19: Mapovanie správania súvisiaceho s pandémiou a jej psychologické, sociálne a ekonomické dôsledky

Duration: 1. 7. 2021 - 30. 6. 2024
Program: APVV
Project leader: Mgr. Kentoš Michal PhD.
Annotation:Because the COVID-19 situation requires (and will require) substantial changes in human behaviour and creates significant burdens on individuals’ daily life, insights from behavioural sciences should be of immense value for epidemiologists, public health experts, policymakers, or other authorities in order to make evidence-driven decisions in tackling the current challenges as well as the consequences of the pandemic. The real value of such information is, unfortunately, often underestimated. Only a relatively small fraction of the research attempts to map COVID-related behaviours and trends in the consequences of the pandemic from a pragmatic and generalizable viewpoint. The dearth of complex representative data on these issues makes it difficult to implement evidence-based policies or to build reliable prognostic models. The proposed project, therefore, aims (1) to examine the explicit behaviours related to the pandemic and their psychological/sociological correlates, allowing thus to unfold the structure of the actual adherence to regulations; (2) to examine post-COVID-19 long-term development and trends in mental health, social relationships, economic well-being, and overall quality of life in time. The ultimate goal of the project is to provide both the general public and authorities with a set of valid, complex, and representative behavioural data and reports. This would substantially increase the effectiveness of tackling this pandemic and its consequences and would help in creating better-prepared strategies for crisis prevention and management. As we embrace open science practices, all materials, data, and outputs of the project will be freely available, which guarantees the sustainability and the importance of this project even long after the current COVID- 19 crisis.

Cyrillical travelogue from the Journey to Florence. Attempt at a narrative.

CYRILICKÝ CESTOPIS Z CESTY NA FLORENTSKÝ KONCIL. Pokus o naratív

Duration: 1. 1. 2019 - 31. 12. 2022
Program: VEGA
Project leader: PhDr. Hlaváčová Anna CSc.
Annotation:The aim is to prepare for publication a 15th century Russian literary source – a Cyrillic travelogue describing the journey to (and from) the Council of Florence (1439) and to analyse its long (full itinerary) version. The emphasis on the return way of metropolitan Isidore’s companions will enable us to study the reception of the Union of Florence among Slavs immediately after the council. It may reveal these events in a very different light compared to established seclusionist narrative that has been formed later - in the complicated process of anti-Latin polemics of a later date. The project continues the author’s previous research of quattrocento non-polemical literary sources studying the phenomena previously unseen by Russian travellers to the council of Florence.

Luník IX - the past, present and future of the Roma ghetto

Luník IX - dejiny, súčasnosť a perspektívy rómskeho sídliska

Duration: 1. 1. 2019 - 31. 12. 2022
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Ficeri Ondrej PhD.
Annotation:The self-governing city district of Košice – Luník IX is the biggest and most concentrated Roma settlement in Slovakia. The ethnically segregated city district is in long-term a centre point of interest of Slovak, and foreign observers – be it politicians, scientists, or non-government activists – due to disputableness of interethnic, demographic, environmental, and last but not least, hygienic conditions developed in this districts throughout its existence. Luník IX in historical consciousness and current popular culture figures as a synonym for failed Roma assimilation to majority population. The grounding and consequent development of the district is in mentalities of majority population surrounded by many superstitions and myths which are based partly on real, partly on false facts. The aim of the project is to map the history and the presence of the disputed city district and to elaborate a sociohistorical synthesis about the phenomenon of Luník IX produced by Slovak, regionally affiliated scholars.

Migration on the Slovak territory since its foundation - the dynamics of migration flows with EU and OECD countries

Migrácia na území SR od vzniku SR – dynamika migračných tokov s krajinami EÚ a OECD

Duration: 1. 1. 2020 - 31. 12. 2023
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Ing. Heriban Richard PhD.
Annotation:Slovakia is a small open economy which is denoted by a high dynamics of economic and social processes since its foundation. Migration is of one of areas which in the past years showed revival. Most of the migration studies analyze cases from particular point of view while the complex picture frequently gets underestimated both in historical and international context. It is not possible to interpret the results of quantitative analyses without thorough mapping and understanding of these contexts, nor to design prediction trends thereof. The project will deal with a complex picture of migration to and from the Slovak Republic in time space from its founding as well as its relation to other countries and clusters. The members of team are long-term members of OECD SOPEMI network focused on monitoring and analyzing of migration data and policies within the entire OECD. There ensued an ample statistical and analytical data throughout their tenure which mapped the progress of migration in Slovakia.

Causes and consequences of labour market inequalities in the context of the Corona pandemic in Slovakia

Príčiny a dôsledky nerovností na trhu práce v kontexte Corona pandémie na Slovensku

Duration: 1. 1. 2021 - 31. 12. 2024
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr., MA Mýtna Kureková Lucia PhD.
Annotation:The aim of the project is to carry out in-depth research of phenomena related to the topic of labor market inequalities, including the context of the Corona pandemic in Slovakia. The basic premise is that the Corona crisis will have high social costs in the form of rising unemployment and poverty and a further increase in social and labor market inequalities. The project aims to identify the state and changes in labor market disparities before and after the Corona crisis, and to analyze how the reactions of actors influenced labor market developments. The project will focus on three related areas: a) typology and mapping of vulnerable groups b) analysis of coping strategies of vulnerable groups and other actors to complex changes; (c) examining policies affecting the labor market position of vulnerable groups. The contribution of the project lies in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary mapping of the consequences of a pandemic on a mosaic of inequalities in Slovakia, and in a comparison to other countries.

Benefits of Slovak migration

Prínosy slovenskej migrácie

Duration: 1. 1. 2019 - 31. 12. 2022
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Ing. Chrančoková Martina PhD.
Annotation:International migration has interdisciplinary character. Migration is nowadays studied quantitatively through statistics. The project’s ambition is to fill certain gabs in understanding of individual types of Slovak migration utilizing mixed method - qualitative and quantitative methods. We would like to find out answers to the following questions: what was the benefit of stay abroad to Slovak citizens (1) from their personal point of view in regards to the foreigners, system of work and education, (2) in terms of their knowledge and skills and opinion on (3) their benefit to Slovakia upon their return, but also in the case of remaining abroad. Hence there is a need to study the factors determining Slovak migration – reasons for leaving and returning. Slovakia is experiencing brain drain, concerning the tertiary education. The second issue is brain circulation , concerning the lower levels of education. Therefore, the case study will consist of university students, low skilled and high skilled Slovaks.

Duration: 1. 7. 2021 - 30. 6. 2025
Program: APVV
Project leader: doc. PaedDr. Kurincová Čavojová Vladimíra PhD.
Annotation:Disinformation and epistemically suspect beliefs (ESBs) are no longer a domain of few obscure websites, but they increasingly become part of the mainstream discourse, as the number of people endorsing them is growing. To address these challenges the project will focus on the identification of cognitive, personality and social factors that underlie endorsing and spreading of disinformation and ESBs with the aim to verify several possibilities how to reduce these unfounded beliefs and disinformation stemming from them. The project will test four main intervention approaches aiming at reducing disinformation and ESBs: (1) increasing scientific thinking, (2) inoculation by counter-arguments, (3) information intervention increasing analytical thinking, and (4) manipulation of situational variables affecting the willingness to share bullshit. Ambition of the project is to expand the focus from the correlational studies to experimental verification of causal influences of the identified predictors, and from the understanding why people believe in ESBs to verification of possibilities how to reduce the spread of disinformation. Previous universal intervention efforts failed, which emphasize the importance of targeting the specific intervention depending on the characteristics of the target groups of people, therefore, one of the project's aims is to explore also the moderators of the efficacy of the tested interventions. Another related aim of the project is identification of the most vulnerable groups not only in terms of their inclination to ESBs, but also in terms of the health and economic consequences, or political radicalization. Results of the project will contribute to psychological knowledge of this rapidly growing field of study, and they will also lead to practical recommendations in the form of best-practices how to effectively reduce the spread of disinformation.

Examining unfounded beliefs about controversial social issues

Skúmanie nepodložených presvedčení vo vzťahu ku kontroverzným spoločenským otázkam

Duration: 1. 1. 2021 - 31. 12. 2024
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Šrol Jakub PhD.
Annotation:The aim of the project is to examine factors that influence the spread of unfounded information regarding controversial topics. In the recent years, there was a lot of attention paid by media, society, and scientists to the rise of unfounded claims about various socially important issues – such as climate skepticism, conspiracy theories regarding the purposeful spread of viruses, or fake news that give rise to the fear of migrants. In our project, we integrate the most recent findings from several domains of research on unfounded beliefs, scientific reasoning, and cognitive biases with the aim of identifying the causes and consequences of the proliferation of such information in the society. Our research on this topic will include a focus on (1) potential recipients of unfounded information, (2) context and characteristics of the environment in which the spread of misinformation takes place, and (3) people who actively endorse unfounded beliefs and contribute to their proliferation.

Annotation:The project reflects the current social situation emphasizing the topic of populism. There has been a risinginterest to explain it in current conditions. The project is based on the analysis of data on two levels. The first levelis a discursive analysis of historical sources and an analysis of data of international surveys (e.g. ESS, ISSP).The second level is represented by primary data obtained by focus groups as well as by a professional research agency that will provide a representative sample of Slovak citizens (panel of respondents). The research will include analyses of populist attitudes/populist framing of social identity and selected variables. The contribution lies in the creation and verification of a new methodology for populist attitudes and also an outline of the mechanism behind the populist attitudes in the Slovak population. The aim of the project is to contribute to the understanding of people's populist attitudes through application of knowledge and theory offered by social psychology.

TransferNem - Transfer of Germans from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War in period propaganda

Transfer Nemcov z Československa po druhej svetovej vojne v dobovej propagande

Duration: 1. 1. 2022 - 31. 12. 2025
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Heldáková Lucia PhD.
Annotation:The aim of the project is basic research focused on the propaganda of the transfer of the German minority after the Second World War from the Czechoslovak Republic. Many historical contexts related to transfer have been examined in detail since 1989, but the cultural area (propaganda) of the elaborated phenomenon still remains a white spot of research. As part of the research, we will focus on distorted historical facts and deliberately suppressed problems related to the transfer of the German minority via contemporary propaganda. The originality and benefits of the project lie in four areas: a) filling the white space in previous historical research, (b) research of sources which have been marginalized in the examination of the transfer so far (in particular periodicals and radio recordings); c) the use of a modern historical-methodological approach to the study of history (CDA and propaganda research); d) publication of a summary work, which will map the sketched phenomenon and which is absent in historiography.
