In the last decades, the Arab World has witnessed many dramatic changes which can also be traced in the works of modern Arab writers. Authors of literary modernism and post-modernism, affected by the unsettled situation in the Middle East, recast their experience into literary works. The main subject of the doctoral thesis is to explore the literary reflection of historical trauma in the Arab world. The aim of the research is to analyze various forms of literary depiction of traumatizing events (colonialism, wars, armed conflicts) in selected works of Arabic literature as well as to examine their effects on the society from both, the individual and the collective point of view.
