Tauopathies are neurodegenerative diseases in which one of the main features is the formation of neurofibrillary tangles consisting of pathological forms of tau protein. Tauopathies include diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease and many others. The processes that lead to and contribute to the formation of tauopathies are currently not well understood. In a previous project, we identified novel potential tau protein interaction partners by using yeast two-hybrid system. The aim is to perform secondary validation of the newly discovered tau interaction partners under in vitro conditions, followed by characterization of the interaction using biophysical methods and determination of their interaction site with tau proteins. We expect that the results obtained from this research will lead to an increased knowledge of tau protein function in both physiological and pathological conditions. These findings may lead to the discovery of novel biomarkers or therapeutic approaches for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, as well as to a better understanding of the processes leading to tauopathies.
