Discovering novel diagnostic biomarkers and signatures for traumatic brain injury (TBI) represents a major challenge in the brain trauma research. Detailed analysis of post-concussive molecular pathways based on experimental data could provide a new insight into the pathophysiological sequelae and mapping of recovery mechanisms involved in TBI. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) detectable in peripheral body fluids after TBI are promising carriers of this missing knowledge. The project aims to identify novel biomarkers and characterize signaling pathways of traumatic brain injury using state-of-the-art transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomics approaches. Acquired data will be processed using validated bioinformatic prediction and data-processing tools. Such a comprehensive pipeline would allow to identify and validate novel candidates for TBI-induced biomarkers and signaling events potentially applicable for diagnostics and prognostics of post -concussive monitoring of TBI individuals in the future.
