Mitochondria are key organelles both in terms of energy production and intracellular signaling. Both of these processes can be monitored by modern methods of biophotonics including fluorescence indicators and optogenetics direcly in living cells using confocal and super-resolution microscopy. The aim of this work is to use these modern methods of biophysics to determine the function and calcium signalling of mitochondria in experimental models of selected lifestyle diseases.
