Richard has extensive experience as a researcher, leader, manager, and coordinator of research, development, and evaluation projects. His work focuses on environmental and social policy intersections, particularly climate change adaptation and mitigation, foresight, and systemic change. He has contributed to the development of decarbonization strategies, sustainable financing mechanisms, impact assessments, and projects addressing social and territorial exclusion. His research is rooted in the principles of environmental justice, examining exposure to environmental risks, disparities in access to resources, and the vulnerability of populations affected by climate change and ecological degradation.
Richard previously served as Head of Group at the European Environment Agency. He is currently a Senior Expert for the Slovak Government, contributing to efforts on the national climate adaptation strategy. He has been involved in planning and evaluating cohesion policies, drafting the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and integrating the Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) principle into environmental and energy sector initiatives.
Beyond policy and research, Richard has a strong academic presence. He has lectured at Comenius University, contributes regularly to public discussions on climate and sustainability, and is an experienced meeting facilitator and mediator, helping to bridge perspectives across sectors.
As an author, Richard has published several books and numerous articles in professional journals. He has also worked as an external consultant for the European Commission, UNDP, UNEP, the European Environmental Bureau, and other international organizations, providing expertise on climate policy, governance frameworks, and sustainable development.
