About the magazine

Slavica Slovaca is an independent scientific periodical published by the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, together with the Slovak Committee of Slavists, a civic association. It serves as a key publishing medium of Slovak Slavonic Studies.

The history of the journal is inextricably linked to the Slovak Academy of Sciences, which (through several of its institutes) has been publishing the journal since the first issue published in 1966 to the present day.

After the establishment of an independent Slavic department at the SAS - the Slavic Cabinet of the SAS in 1995 - the journal Slavica Slovaca became its publishing organ.

In 1996, the first co-publisher became the Matica Slovenská. In 2011, the Slovak Committee of Slavists became the second co-publisher of the journal, replacing the Matica Slovenská. The fact was registered by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.

The Editor-in-Chief of Slavica Slovaca, after the opinion of the Scientific Council of the SÚJS SAV and SKS, was appointed by the Director of the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavic Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences on 5 of October 2012.

The journal is published three times a year in both print and electronic formats and contains comparatively focused scholarly studies, survey materials, reports from scholarly events, and reviews in the fields of linguistics, history, ethnology, cultural studies, and the history of Slavic studies.

The articles published in Slavica Slovaca focus on interdisciplinary and comparative research on the relations of Slovak language and culture with other Slavic as well as non-Slavic languages and cultures, including research on Slovak-Church Slavic, Slovak-Latin and Slovak-German relations.

This focus reflects the scholarly-coordinating role of the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Slovak Committee of Slavists. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of many aspects of Slovak linguistic-historical and cultural development in relation to Slavic and non-Slavic cultures in the European context.

As the main publishing organ of Slovak Slavic Studies, the journal also presents an excerpt from the annual reports of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as well as reports from the meetings of the Slovak Committee of Slavists, information about international Slavic conventions and congresses, and current events in the field of Slavic research in Slovakia. The journal's publishing policy is governed by the Principles of Publication and Review Ethics.

Slavica Slovaca provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge in the domestic and international Slavic context.
