Annotation
Every documentary film is a social construct. It is an audiovisual representation, indexically and ontologically linked to reality. The filmmaker’s signature is evident in the form and treatment of the content, while the structure of the narrative influences the cognitive, emotional, and affective processes involved in the audience’s reception of the work. Research into these three components—the author’s style, representation, and reception—encompasses a complex set of relationships through which a film reflects the creator’s individual preferences, their relationship to the depicted aspects of reality, and the ways in which the audience is addressed.
