Annotation
Film festivals are a phenomenon that is the focus of contemporary film festival studies. In our country, however, no one has systematically addressed this issue—whether from a historical, production, distribution, marketing, economic, or social perspective, or in terms of its impact on audiences. Yet film festivals are among the essential tools for building a director’s career; they serve as a prestigious platform for successfully launching a distribution chain and as a means of establishing oneself in the audiovisual industry. The typology, genre focus, objectives, strategies, and programmatic characteristics of film festivals create a stimulating space for their examination and for justifying their very existence. Many of them are seeking new forms of presenting audiovisual works—not just films—in order to retain the audience’s favor in an era of developing new media and information technologies.
