Annotation
The term “polycrisis” encompasses political, economic, geopolitical, social, and environmental factors, as well as cultural and value-based determinants. In times of polycrisis, art is often perceived as a space for processing trauma and building collective resilience. It does not offer concrete and definitive solutions, but seeks ways to survive in an uncertain reality. Opera theater also participates as an organic part of modern performing arts in the current cultural and social discourse that reflects these phenomena. A socially sensitive approach can be applied here through both new musical-dramatic works and staging interpretations of works from the classical opera canon. The aim of this dissertation is to explore contemporary opera theater in a time of multiple crises, whether in terms of its reflective function or as a space for active resistance, political dissent, and social intervention.
