Annotation
At the time of the Roman occupation, the territory that would become the future province of Pannonia inhabited several indigenous tribes, mostly of Celtic origin. Evidence of their presence provides not only epigraphic monuments and necropolises, but also rural settlements of an autochthonous character – the so-called indigenous vici. One of these was excavated in Bratislava-Rusovce, in the agricultural hinterland of the Gerulata fort. The dissertation aims to evaluate the features and artefacts to document how the nature of the settlement is transformed and Romanized. The results will be placed in a broader historical context, in which the autochthonous population gradually succumbed to the globalizing pressure of the dominant Roman culture.
