The primary objective of this research is to investigate the mechanisms of host selection in Ips typographus (L.) within Picea abies (Karst.) ecosystems. The study will integrate advanced field surveys with remote sensing techniques to enhance understanding of bark beetle host selection dynamics. Data acquired from aerial and satellite sensors in model areas affected by bark beetle outbreaks will be analysed within a GIS framework to identify differences between primary and secondary infestations, as well as trees that have survived bark beetle attacks. Additionally, chemical, genomic, and transcriptomic analyses will be incorporated to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing host selection by Ips typographus.
