Annotation
The aim of this dissertation will be to analyze narrative practices and means of expression in contemporary Anglophone horror and dystopian literature as a manifestation of anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist critiques of American politics in the 21st century. We will be interested in what specific contributions this genre brings to literature and literary scholarship and how it produces a social critique of systemic exploitation. We will explore themes in this literature, such as the cycle of neocolonial violence, cultural displacement, or ecological collapse, in the context of the poetics of the horror genre and dystopia as a manifestation of social critique and warning of catastrophe. The project will offer contributions to the fields of genre studies as well as postcolonial criticism.
