Annotation
Bee products are a frequent subject of preclinical and clinical studies. However, the identification of substances responsible for their therapeutic properties is lacking. The aim of this study will be to characterize the effect of selected peptides and polyphenol extracts from bee products on the articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), as well as on medically significant extra-articular manifestations, with the aim of optimizing conventional RA treatment. The pharmacological modulation of these RA symptoms will be evaluated using adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats. In addition to biometric indicators, markers of inflammation and oxidative stress will be determined in plasma and relevant tissues. The study will particularly involve the analysis of cardioprotective mechanisms and the study of mitochondrial energetics. Finally, the effectiveness of the most potent natural substance will be tested in combination with methotrexate and biological drugs.
