Annotation
Hyaluronan (HA) is a polysaccharide with a molar mass of up to 7 MDa found primarily in the skin, vitreous body and in synovial fluid. In inflammatory diseases, the molar mass of HA is significantly reduced by the action of reactive oxygen species.
In vitro studies of the degradation effect of free radicals on high molar mass HA solutions will be performed using rotational viscometry and oxygen electrode to monitor oxygen consumption. The following will be evaluated: i) preventive and ii) “chain-breaking” protective effects of natural and synthetic compounds. Compounds with significant protective/antioxidant effects will be subsequently evaluated in in vivo experiments on skin wound healing in ischemic rabbits and rats.
