| Annotation: | The COST Action: Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Resilience (SHiFT) project is designed to take advantage of networking and collaboration opportunities between partner institutions. It is an ideal avenue to strengthen existing SSH expertise and transdisciplinary experience of stakeholders and to actively create new and innovative alliances and research pathways in the short and long term. This trajectory is closely aligned with COST's mission and policy of 'bridging the gap', which remains an obstacle to knowledge integration between science, policy-making and society.
The project aims to create a transdisciplinary hub to address existing challenges in supporting early societal transformation in the context of climate change. The SHiFT HUB - Centre will consist of a group of transdisciplinary SSH researchers and practitioners and their other networks of social contacts, with a focus on developing shared benefits for transformation across different social, political, economic, environmental and technological contexts. The SHiFT project aims to address the challenge of creating innovative and feasible pathways through engaging with the transformative dimension of 'critical practice'. The 'critical practice' approach explores transformative processes in practice across a range of dimensions that include research, policy, business, community and individual practice. |

| Annotation: | In an era marked by overlapping crises – spanning health, environmental, economic, and geopolitical domains – alongside rapid technological advances, societal values are experiencing unprecedented strain. Prolonged instability, driven by successive crises and profound social shifts, is reshaping citizens’ values, with significant implications for social cohesion and coexistence. In response, this Action aims to establish an interdisciplinary network to advance research on value orientations during periods of crisis and social transformation. The Action will investigate how external disruptions interact with internal social dynamics to reshape values across Europe. Key objectives include: a) analyzing the multifaceted impact of societal crises on citizens’ values, b) contextualizing the role of generational shifts, c) exploring regional and cultural variations, d) identifying cross-cutting themes in value transformation, and e) examining how technological advancements influence these shifts. By applying an interdisciplinary approach and integrating diverse perspectives from both within and beyond academia, the Action will offer a comprehensive understanding of the factors driving value change. This collaborative effort will enhance our understanding of how societies navigate rapid social transformations and external pressures, particularly their effects on citizens’ value systems. Through the creation, transfer, and dissemination of knowledge, the COST VISTA Action seeks to establish a robust foundation for sustained research on value changes and the critical forces shaping the evolution of social structures and collective behavior. |

| Annotation: | CIDAPE is a groundbreaking project at the forefront of research on the complex interplay between citizen engagement, climate change, and social and economic inequalities. At its core lies the recognition that emotions play a fundamental role in political participation and communication. Understanding and responding to citizens' emotional (re)actions - as set up by CIDAPE's inquiry - are essential to achieving coordinated, democratic action. |

| Annotation: | In recent years, conspiracy theories have become an important issue not only to the people who propagate them, but also to those who fear their consequences and design initiatives to push back against the ‘post-truth’ era. Perceived as a major threat to liberal democracies, they are increasingly subjected to state-led interventions. Also many NGOs are now dedicated to preventing and combating conspiracy theories. Clearly, conspiracy theories have become a highly polarizing topic. The objective of CONSPIRATIONS is to analyse this growing tension over conspiracy theories in Europe. The project proposes an innovative approach which moves beyond an exclusive focus on ‘truthers’ to examine the perspective of ‘truth defenders’ as well. This project will analyse conspiracy theory not as a standalone phenomenon, but instead as an outcome of the complicated relationship linking stakeholders who are both separated and connected by the conspiratorial divide. By expanding the scope of study from conspiracy theories to conflicts over conspiracy theories, CONSPIRATIONS will explore the possibility that the worlds of these actors are mutually constitutive. This approach goes beyond the question of who is wrong and what to do about it. Instead, it offers a deeper understanding of the conflicts themselves, which are clearly of urgent importance for contemporary Europe. That understanding in turn will provide better knowledge for tackling the damaging effects of the conspiratorial divide. An important premise of this proposal is that the answer lies not in addressing the content of the conspiracy theories themselves, but rather the kinds of conditions that give rise to them. The secondary goal is to understand how these conflicts are influenced by social contexts, and how they unfold across diverse European settings. The objectives of this project will be achieved through ethnographic case studies in Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Poland, Sweden, and EU institutions. |

| Annotation: | The aim of the project of Miroslav Tížik (Slovak Academy of Sciences, Institute of Sociology) and Anne-Laure Zwilling (CNRS, Strasbourg University) with the support of two postdoctoral fellows, one from France (Anne Lancien, GSRL, Paris) and one from Slovakia (Michal Puchovský, SAS), is to foster cooperation within the EUREL network between France and Slovakia. EUREL's activities also include the preparation of biennial international conferences, which take place alternately in France and in another member country of the network. In 2025, the conference will be held in Bratislava and its main themes will be the transformation of religion in Europe in the context of the long-term formation of the European Union and its gradual enlargement. The aim will be to bring the perspectives of Central and Eastern European countries more intensively into the discussions on the processes of change in the field of religious life in Europe. The second focus of the EUREL network is to strengthen discussions and contacts between researchers in the field of sociology and law in Europe and Canada and to foster further joint actions. |
