This eclipse is exceptional because it will travel across the United States of America, from Oregon to South Carolina. This phenomenon is of interest not only to professional scientists but also to the lay public. It is estimated that about seven million visitors are going to the totalitarian belt to view the eclipse.
The latest issue of Nature Astronomy features the review article Heliophysics at total solar eclipses by Prof. Jay Pasachoff (Hopkins Observatory, Williams College, USA): https://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-017-0190.
In the article Prof. Pasachoff provides a view of the white corona of the Sun (photo) which scientists captured during a total eclipse in 2013 from an observation post in Gabon, Africa. This high-resolution photo was created by composing and processing a large number of shots during the eclipse, including some by Dr. Vojtech Rušin, a member of the SAS Astronomical Institute in Tatranská Lomnica. Doctor Rušin observed the eclipse in 2013 as a member of the international team and is named in the article as co-author.
