K prameňom slovenských rozprávok (rozprávka a jej výklad v Codexoch revúckych)
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Pácalová Jana PhD.
Annotation:The submitted project is dedicated to the research of an important manuscript collection of the first half of the 1840s, Codices of Revúca. Their creation was the initiative of Samuel Reuss (1783 – 1852), who is considered to be the main authority on collecting, compiling and interpreting fairy tales before they were published as books in Slovakia. The research focuses on the oldest layer of the source from the viewpoint of the history of publication of fairy tale books and their interpretation – the recording of fairy tales and their German-language commentaries by Samuel Reuss. The goal of the project is thoroughly to study this part of the manuscript. The first stage will consist of accurate transcription of the fairy tales and translation of German commentaries. In the second, analytical stage, members of the research team will prepar scientific commentaries to fairy tales and the source as such, and they will analyse it in the context of contemporary manuscripts.

Cognitively Oriented Literary Studies. Theory and Showcase Studies from Slovak Literature
Kognitívne orientovaná literárna veda. Teórie a príkladové štúdie zo slovenskej literatúry
Program: VEGA
Project leader: PhDr. Kuzmíková Jana CSc.
Annotation:The goal is to examine problem areas of the theory of cognitive literary theory and to analyze them in showcase studies from Slovak literature. The assumption is that the human mind, which is in the centre of attention of cognitive sciences, plays an important role in the literary process. Cognitive sciences may and can have their say about many issues of literary science. On the other hand, the experience and knowledge of literary studies can be used in cognitive sciences as well. Besides the elementary interdisciplinary problems (prototypes, cognitive blend, emotions etc), the project will also be aimed at the relation between evolution, creativity and literature, and focus on the problems of memory, cognition (of meaning) and mental statuses in the literary process. The benefits for literary science lie in enlarging the scope of the theoretical assumptions of the arts, introducing the possibilities of more complex analysis of literary production, and knowing the literary process and reading better. The main goal of the project is to examine the relevant problem areas of the theory of cognitive literary science (studies) and to analyze them in showcase studies of Slovak literature.

Poetika slovenskej literatúry po r. 1945
Program: VEGA
Project leader: prof. PhDr. Zajac Peter DrSc.
Annotation:The project Poetics of Slovak Literature After 1945 is a pendant to the project History of Slovak Literature After 1945 carried out with the support from VEGA in 2011-2014. During this project, it turned out that literary historical research opens ways to solving key tasks of poetics of the Slovak literature after 1945, often from an entirely new point of view and new methodological perspective. Besides standard issues of historical poetics of a prosaic and poetic text, poetological principles and changes in the Slovak literature between 1945 and the end of the 20th century related to the subject in prose and poetry, narration and types of narratives in prose and enunciation and enunciatives (lyrical accounts) in poetry, genre issues, issues of structure/architecture of the text, time and space in a literary text, relationship of topic, topology and tropology of the text as well as various modalities of mediality of prosaic and poetic texts, intertextual and intermedial relations at the level of individual texts and system relations, the issue of comparative poetics of a literary field, individual literary situations and changes of paradigms will have an important position in the research, too.

Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Rišková Lenka PhD.
Annotation:In the international research in the area of the history of literary culture a great attention is paid to reconstruction of so called cultural memory and to portraying literary culture in a way that can get connected more deeply with culture and social circumstances of different historical periods. This grant project focuses on the research of occasional poetry at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries,in particular occasional poetry by the authors of the first three collections of poems of secular character in the Slovak linguistic environment-Juraj Palkovič, Bohuslav Tablic and Pavel Jozef Šafárik. Its outcomes could become significant components of reconstruction of a more compact portrayal of contemporary notions of poetic art, its criteria and functions as well as opportunities for its application in a wider social context. They should also be accepted as a contribution to the discussion on forms and opportunities of the literary development in the Slovak environment that could also clarify its specifics.

Textual figurations of Slovak literature of the 19th century
Textové figurácie slovenskej literatúry 19. storočia
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Taranenková Ivana PhD.
Annotation:The research project shall, following a structural and semiotic analysis of the texts of the corpus of Slovak literature of the 19th century, present the figures of literary discourse thereof, their functions and mutual configurations, while drawing upon the concept of figures of the new rhetoric by G. Genette. Using them, we shall then on the background of the key literary and historical discourses of the 19th century reconstruct a number of continuous poetic tendencies, which had acted subversively against the dominant heroic inclinations preferred by the so far carried out research into Slovak literature of the 19th century, brought into connection with represation of the nation. We shall verify the hypothesis of the three enshrined genre-, thematology- and topology-related tendencies – the idyllic, ironic, and melancholic. We will point out to the fundamental problems of the representation and referentiality of period Slovak literature, a also in the case of their specific types (autobiographic etc.)

The genre of feuiletton in Slovak Literature 1862 - 1914
Žáner besednice v slovenskej literatúre 1862 – 1914
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Hučková Dana CSc.
Annotation:The project researches the genre of “besednica” (feuilleton, tale, chat, gab fest) in the context of the evolution of small fiction genres in Slovak literature, roughly from the 1860s until 1914. It focuses on its formation and discusses its terminological delimitation (being aware of terminological and contents ambiguity). It also deals with developmental typology of texts and researches concrete works by individual authors. “Besednica” in the given period had rather different forms (polymorphism). The goal of the project is to research how this genre evolved in contact with other short narrative forms, and to trace its productive line in the development of the Slovak literature of given period.
