Parasitological (former Helminthological) Institute of SAS is the only institute in Slovakia pursuing a complex study on parasites and parasitic diseases of humans, animals and plants, engaged in the international collaboration and applying modern moleculo-biological techniques. Scientific results of the Institute have largely the character of basic less of strategic applied research. The findings acquired since 1953 have greatly contributed to parasitology on the global as well. as the regional scale. The importance and originality of the findings have been documented by their publishing in international parasitological journals and monographs. The Institute has earned several prestigious international appreciations and its representatives have been active on boards of the world and European parasitological societies. The high number of prominent parasitologists participating in the periodical international helminthological symposia „Helminths – Helminthoses- Environment„ organised by the Institute and other national and international distinctions conferred on the Institute give the evidence of its high-quality results. Parasitological Institute SAS is the only accredited educational institute in the Slovak Republic for the scientific field 15-12-9 parasitology.
